AT LEMONGRASS CAFE
Brick & Mortar location is next step for the successful pop-up and farmer’s market operation. The Pig and the Lady, the award-eating eatery now has a place of its own as part of PGC's incubation program.
HONOLULU – The wait is over for The Pig & The Lady fans. The popular farmer's market stand and pop-up restaurant has set its roots in the community in the heart of Honolulu -- Chinatown!
They have partnered with Pacific Gateway Center, a nonprofit committed to supporting and assisting immigrants, refugees and low-income residents, and took over their current restaurant Lemongrass Cafe at 83 North King Street. As a part of their partnership, they will be employing participants in their work training program and using produce they are planning to grow on their farms.
"The Pacific Gateway Center (PGC) is deeply honored and very excited about ‘The Pig and the Lady’ coming to the Lemongrass Cafe! This is going to be a wonderful partnership!” said PGC Executive Director Dr. Tin Myaing Thein. “Following in the steps of Lemongrass' signature Southeast Asian cuisine, ‘The Pig and the Lady’ offers an eclectic and savory array of Vietnamese delectable cuisine that is extremely popular on the farmers' markets and pop-up circuits! From success at the Farmers Markets to their fabulous Pop Ups, ‘The Pig and the Lady's’ move to a permanent location is the right step in the incubation process.”
The restaurant will take facets from the menus at the farmer's markets and Noodle Bar pop-ups (last held at pop-up space Taste and Honolulu Night Markets) by serving Vietnamese street food-style lunches for the fast-paced downtown crowd and imaginative tasting dinners and late night snack food for the nighttime crowd.
They also are expanding their catering department to cater to small meetings to big events, like product launches to weddings or graduations, and will be launching their online shop for their fans who want to pick up a jar of kaya jam or a TP&TL apron or t-shirt to give as gifts!
You can also find them at the Farmer's Markets. More details will be revealed in the coming weeks, such as investment opportunities and the launch of a crowd funding campaign, where you can receive various perks depending on the level of your contribution.
“After a little over 2 years of working without a permanent space, we feel it’s time to take the next step. This brick and mortar will provide a central hub for our many operations, including the new restaurant, the farmer’s market, which will still continue in conjunction with the restaurant, and developing our catering department,” says The Pig and the Lady Founder, Chef Andrew Le. “We just want to do this simple and right. In the end, it’s about good food and good company.”
