Pacific Gateway Center Refugee Resettlement Program
Refugee Services in Honolulu
Pacific Gateway Center is a local refugee resettlement site which offers assistance and support to refugees as they begin their resettlement in the United States. Families and individuals from all over the world find it necessary to flee from their homes in fear of persecution and choose the United States as a new home offering safety and opportunity. Hawaii is an important gateway city in the United States.
As with all refugee resettlement programs, our task is to ensure the self-sufficiency within a short period of time for the refugees who choose to live and in Hawaii. Therefore, our initial assistance includes helping secure affordable housing, employment, job counseling, and English classes to assist with smooth transition and acculturation. Refugee caseworkers assist with applying for a social security card and health care, and registering their children in schools. We also help with understanding the local public transportation system, the U.S. financial system, and the developing of a local support system.
Pacific Gateway Center is a service provider to refugees funded by the Department of Health and Human Services Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), the USCRI’s Matching Grant Program and also receives support from the U.S. Department of State’s Reception and Placement Program (R&P) to provide essential services refugees need to rebuild their lives.
