Milo's Pastele Stop

Milo’s Pastele Stop

Pasteles were introduced to Hawaii in the 1890s after the first Puerto Rican immigrants came to work on the sugarcane plantations. The historical legacy is alive today.

It is never too late to start something new and follow your passion. For Martha, starting something new was always a part of her life. Ever since she started working at the age of 14, she has worked in bakery and restaurant operations, mechanic repairs, advertising and press operations, and information services until finally retiring in 2019. But retirement was not the end of her dreams. She still had one more dream to fulfill for her late husband and herself, opening a business of their own. It had always been their dream to open a small business and cook Puerto Rican food together, but unfortunately he passed away just a year after retirement leaving her with the intensified passion to open a business and share his legacy with everyone including their children.

That passion spurred Milo’s Pastele Stop, which sells delicious Puerto Rican food specializing in pastele dishes. They utilize fresh local ingredients to create their famous pastele stew plates and pastele pot pie which comes with 2 scoops of gandule rice, and a 4 oz scoop of their very own version of bacalao salad.

Throughout the years, Milo’s Pastele Stop has received immense love and support from her new and returning customers. She ventured into social media with the help of her daughter to keep up with the vast amount of orders, created frozen versions of their menu items due to the pandemic, and partnered with Oahu Fresh with the help of PGC to sell their pork and chicken pastele pot pies online with weekly deliveries to Oahu families. Now she is serving her delicious food at schools in Central Oahu. There will always be something new that Martha wants to explore as she will never stop expanding her business into an unforgettable legacy.
