Wind impact at PGC Farms Haleʻiwa following Tropical Storm Lala

We’re grateful to share that PGC Farms Haleʻiwa weathered Tropical Storms Lala & Lowell relatively well. In the days leading up to Lala, PGC Agricultural Program Director Bo Bory worked closely with the farmers to prepare the farm, communicate changing conditions, and encourage farmers to harvest crops before the tropical storm arrived. That coordination helped farmers protect their crops and reduce potential losses.

While the farm experienced some impacts, primarily from strong winds, they were significantly less severe than what farmers experienced during the previous Kona Low weather event. The tropical storm also helped us identify where additional investments can make PGC Farms even more resilient. One of the clearest needs is improving farm roads and access routes to provide more reliable access to farm plots and strengthen our preparedness for future severe weather events.

Most importantly, the farmers are doing well and have returned to their normal work. We are grateful to the donors and partners whose support enables PGC to provide hands-on assistance to farmers at PGC Farms Haleʻiwa—not only after an emergency, but also in preparing for one. Your support helps us strengthen PGC Farms and support the farmers who depend on it for their livelihoods.
